ABOUT US

Raenelle Isley

When people ask where I am originally from I say everywhere (in Canada). Born in Inuvik NWT, I spent most of my life in Alberta. I moved to Montreal by myself when I was 22 and spent the rest of my 20’s there, learning and growing. When I moved back to Alberta I became pregnant and threw myself into the role of growing a human. This is when my passionate lifelong sense of human rights and justice, honed in on reproductive justice. I have spent the last 17 years learning about and fighting for reproductive rights for all humans. I started this process by becoming a birth worker. I have completed my birth, abortion, loss and postpartum trainings and have been honoured to support many humans welcoming their babies into the world and into parenting. I have also been honoured to walk alongside people who have chosen not to go through with their pregnancy or didn’t have a choice and have experienced pregnancy loss. Through these relationships as well as working with parents involved in the child welfare system over the last 17 years, I have gained many skills and worked alongside families with humility and care. In Mandy I found a skilled and passionate partner with same values in supporting the families we work with, knowing that the time around birth and postpartum is where families can do amazing healing work. We are privileged to have so much parenting information that we love to share with parents and the skills to help them integrate this knowledge into their own parenting into a way that makes sense to them.

Mandy Bean

Originally from rural New Brunswick, I studied in Montreal, and spent time living abroad in Ireland. Bartending my way through school ignited a deep desire to participate in community-based healing. No longer wanting to contribute to unhealthy lifestyle choices, the first step on this journey was my decision to focus on children. My time spent at a Montessori based daycare piqued my interest in early childhood development and with further education I was able to transition into supporting children with complex needs and trauma histories. I absolutely adored my time spent with these children. The one missing piece was the ability to truly engage with their families. After moving on to a family-focused program - and starting a family of my own - I have gained a deep appreciation for the challenges, struggles, and triumphs people experience throughout their parenting journeys. Being able to walk alongside families as they learn, reflect, and achieve, continues to be one of the greatest joys of my life.

All of my adventures have brought me here to Calgary and to this amazing opportunity. What started as a conversation of hopes and dreams for our communities has become a reality, and I am honored to collaborate with Raenelle as we serve your families.

“I am not the type of woman who will look away when you talk about rape abuse or addiction. I won’t flinch when you walk in covered in dirt, mud and inner shit. I won’t judge your story of neglect, betrayal or trauma. I won’t try to rewrite your suicidal thoughts or self-hatred. I won’t ignore your cry. I won’t back away from your drool, vomit or blood. I won’t deny the relationship you have with your womb, work or the unseen. I won’t belittle your body-image or self-wisdom. I won’t pretend I have an answer for you. I won’t compare your divorce, break-up or loss to another. Because I believe you. I believe when you say what you’ve been through, what you’re in and all that you carry. I believe when you say that you’ve tried, that you want to and you will. I believe you now and will continue believing in you. Because I am the kind of woman that holds space. For you, sister”
